Padel rackets for children – what should you pay attention to when buying?
To ensure that children grow carefully into the sport of padel and learn proper technique, there are rackets specifically tailored to their needs and requirements. Padel rackets for children are lighter, narrower, have a thinner handle and are made of softer materials than adult rackets. In addition, they are significantly cheaper, so children can grow in step with their racket without the costs getting out of control. In this text we will explain to you what you should pay attention to when buying a children's padel racket.
The advantages of a child racket:
A padel racket designed for children makes it much easier to get started with the sport. It helps to develop a clean hitting technique and thus prevent overload and injuries. Padel rackets for children are easier to handle and control, which significantly increases the fun factor for the kids. Another advantage is that children improve quickly and noticeably when they play with a racquet appropriate for their age and level.
How are padel rackets for children different?
They are very similar in basic terms, but there are some important differences between padel rackets for children and adult models - especially in terms of weight, thickness, grip strength and materials. While rackets for adults usually weigh 340 grams or more, children's rackets usually weigh between 240 and 330 grams, depending on the age group.
At 32 to 36 millimeters thick, junior racquets are also slightly thinner, as is the handle. Since children have smaller hands than adults, the grip strength must be correspondingly smaller in order to be able to handle the racket well. As a rule of thumb, there should be a little finger between the thumb and index finger of the hitting hand. In addition, children's rackets are made of softer materials, which allows for more control, absorbs vibrations better and protects the arm from overload and injuries.
Head shape and balance
Padel rackets for children are usually equipped with a round racket head. For older and more advanced players, there are also teardrop-shaped children's rackets that allow for harder and more precise hits, but require cleaner technique.
The round head shape is particularly suitable for younger players and beginners as well as those who prefer a defensive game with long rallies. It offers a larger sweet spot and is therefore more forgiving of mistakes. And this gives the kids a quicker sense of success, even if their hitting technique is not yet very developed.
A grip-heavy or balanced balance point gives additional control and requires less effort to handle the racquet. Head-heavy padel rackets require more strength and more sophisticated technique to play successfully, which is why they are more suitable for older and more experienced children.
Children's padel rackets by age group
For good development, it is very helpful if children can grow with their clubs. There are therefore recommendations for the ideal children's padel racket for every age group.
Playing style and the respective level also play a role in the choice of club. There are also rackets for children within the appropriate parameters that are either balanced, offer more control or allow for more power.
More advanced children can play with slightly heavier and harder models that generate more power and require cleaner technique, while younger and beginners are best started with light control rackets.
Children under 6 years
